Accessible Yoga

Accessible yoga refers to the practice of making yoga inclusive and available to individuals of all abilities, regardless of physical limitations, age, health conditions, or other factors. The concept of accessible yoga is rooted in the belief that yoga should be adapted to meet the needs of diverse populations, ensuring that everyone can experience the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of the practice.

This module is all about learning how to adapt yoga for your body and/or your student's bodies.

Pre-reqs

3 months or more experience practicing physical yoga is recommended. We will not be breaking down poses or explaining poses. Instead we will be taking a closer look at poses that are commonly seen in typical yoga classes. 


You will need

  • A chair for Chair Yoga. Suggestions:  folding chair, dining room chair , yoga chair. Chair most not have arms and be light enough to move around easily. 
  • Yoga Mat
  • 2 Blocks
  • 6 Blankets
  • 1 Strap


Nice But Not Required

  • Flat Bolster
  • Round Bolster

Trauma Informed Yoga

Trauma-Informed Yoga is an approach to yoga teaching and practice that recognizes and addresses the potential impact of trauma on individuals. It involves creating a safe and supportive environment, utilizing mindful and empowering teaching methods, and acknowledging the potential triggers that may arise during a yoga class. The goal is to promote healing and resilience while avoiding re-traumatization.
